What Independent Recruiters Should Know Before Working on a Req in CS

I bet seeing a new requisition is one of your favorite things ever. They’re pretty exciting. It’s like a new world of opportunity is waiting for you to jump in – a world filled with happy clients, happier candidates, and dollar signs all around. But before you get started, there are a few things you should know.

The Crowdstaffing platform was designed with independent recruiters (like yourself) in mind. Every last feature and detail is meant to make your life easier by streamlining the submission process and arming you with a bevy of helpful resources. But just as with everything in life, you get what you put in. If you want to find the best candidates for a requisition, keep the following tips in mind:

Read the job description carefully.

We can’t stress this enough. This is crucial when recruiting for tech positions, which sometimes have subtle variances in the job title or duties. For example, in our last blog, we mentioned the importance of knowing the difference between Theoretical and Applied Research Scientists. Things like this can trip you up if you’re not paying attention, which will only lead to heartache (in the form of a rejected application).

Go through all the AM comments - and we mean all of them.

You’ll find a lot of valuable, inside information here. As you may know, clients with the highest margins tend to be pretty picky. Our AMs do a lot of consulting with clients to find out exactly what you should be looking for in a candidate. AM insight is worth its weight in gold, and you’ll find a bunch of it in the comments.

Check for special instructions and application requirements.

Each client likes things done their own specific way; you don’t want to risk having an application rejected because it wasn’t formatted or uploaded correctly. The special instructions can include everything from simple suggestions of what to include on the resume to in-depth screening requests.

If it's a tough client, keep an eye out for “best practice” content from us.

Aside from our spotlight webinars and blog posts, we also do weekly requisition updates for some of our big-ticket clients, like The Gap. Whether in video or blog form, this content is designed to help you learn more about the client’s needs, so you can make top-quality placements quickly.

Take advantage of the other resources we’ve made available to you.

In case you haven’t heard, we’ve been working hard to develop our CrowdWiki. Here, you’ll find tips for using the Crowdstaffing platform, information about our policies, templates for communicating with candidates and AMs, FAQs, and more. You can access the CrowdWiki by logging in and clicking on the question mark in the top-right corner of the page on the menu bar. You can also find a brief overview of its features in our CrowdWiki blog post.

Last but not least, don’t be afraid to reach out to AMs for more info.

If you need clarification on a job description, or if you’re working on a req for a specialized role, the AM should be able to point you in the right direction. Remember, they want to fill the position just as much as you do!

We get it, doing research takes time. Think of it as an investment toward your placement success rate. The more information you have about a client, the better your chances of landing a dream candidate. And that’s good for everyone, right?
