Join Me at VMSA Live for a Glimpse into the Future of Talent Acquisition

As the attendees for the upcoming VMSA Live event know, we’re nearing the homestretch. The conference takes place in less than a month, and I couldn’t be more excited. VMSA Live is a semi-annual executive summit that addresses the unique challenges facing staffing industry professionals who acquire and manage contingent talent through program governance models. That can include everything from agency temps, SOW-based contractors, managed services programs (MSPs) and the technologies that drive these solutions, such as VMS. The demand for these services continues to grow, as does attendance for the event. And it’s no wonder.

When we describe today’s workforce as blended, we’re not just talking about diversity or an increase in temps. We’re facing a modern talent culture that’s made up of freelancers, Statement of Work contractors, gig workers, supertemps and independents -- skilled people who’ve chosen the freedom of this lifestyle. Today, the professionals who make up this complementary workforce are even infiltrating the highest levels of management in some organizations. They are at the heart of a vivid workforce paradigm shift we have never encountered before.

New Century, New Markets, New Talent

We’re standing at the precipice of a new employment world -- one that emphasizes elasticity, independence, opportunity and entrepreneurialism. To capitalize on the power of this evolutionary talent force, we as staffing professionals must also unite to evolve our programs. It’s time to come together and build MSP 3.0, transform from staffing suppliers into staffing curators, and help enterprises realize the incredible potential of emerging models that embrace, rather than fight, these changes.

We can’t deny that an historical shift is redefining the relationship between the buyers, sellers and purveyors of talent. This isn’t high concept talk or an abstract prediction -- we see the shift taking shape in the headlines every day. One could argue that not since the 1950s have we witnessed such alignment between companies and workers in terms of demand and expectations. The DNA of the workforce has changed. The fabric of the labor market has changed. All stakeholders in the staffing ecosystem must rapidly adapt to thrive. That includes HR, staffing agencies, MSPs and the growth enterprises they serve.

From Big Data to online recruiting platforms and cutting edge social apps, the tools of our trade are evolving at an accelerated pace. Driving these advances are the viability of the gig economy, online talent marketplaces, on-demand recruiting apps, and the decoupling of consumers and employees. Yet this is also creating the opportunity for a true hiring ecosystem -- a model that eliminates silos, promotes entrepreneurship, celebrates talent and rewards results. It’s imperative to our ongoing success as an industry that we think about and hire talent differently.

Against this exciting backdrop, I’ll be discussing the birth of a new hiring ecosystem that will help HR professionals, procurement leaders and other talent stakeholders build and manage this powerful new workforce community.
